The Old Tree – The Brief

And just what are you exactly?

Many games have the player act in the role of an alien or monster, most are identifiable as some sort of creature. In The Old Tree I really have no clue. This little puzzle game uses this to its advantage, if goes full quirky.

The Old Tree is a point and click puzzle game. It does not aim to confound or confuse the player, it just tries to entertain, albeit only for a short time. You are a little… thing, which is solely focused on climbing to the top of a tree. On its journey you encounter a small roster of strange characters and stranger locations.

This game is one where I think that the word surreal can be used without exaggeration. It is truly a strange experience, one that does not alienate the player. It is visually charming and sweet, it is well animated and it uses appropriate sound effects.

Many people hold grudges against games which charge for short experiences. This game circumvents that debate entirely by being free from the get go. As such I think that I can comfortably say that there is no reason why you have not already gone out and tried it. It is worth the time it takes to complete.
