Upcoming Features and Fixes for Pokémon GO Announced at San Diego Comic-Con

At San Diego Comic-Con, Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke hosted a panel to discuss their Augmented Reality app Pokémon GO and he teased a whole bunch of stuff that is upcoming in the app! And yes, he says a fix for the three-step glitch, which renders the nearby Pokémon tracker useless, is coming but not before the servers and launches all around the world are stable.

First off in terms of upcoming updates, he states that the rare Pokémon; Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew, MewTwo and the unseen Ditto will show up at some point and that, as for beyond the original 151, other Pokémon from newest generations of the Pokémon series “… might make their way into our universe. That’s something we’re looking forward to find interesting ways to make that happen over the coming months and years.”

He then went on to talk about trading Pokémon, much to the audiences’ delight. He states that they’re working on bringing it into the app but only when the servers are stable.

Hanke starts talking about the PokéStops and mentions that they’ve got an idea to find an object that’ll “… change the functionality of a PokéStop and give it new capabilities.” One of these capabilities he says may be turning PokéStops into Pokémon Centres to heal Pokémon without the use of potions for use by your friends and teammates; perfect for taking down nearby gyms quickly.

He states that so far, they’ve only used a 10th of the ideas they have in this initial release and that they’re collecting some great ideas from the Pokémon GO community.

Hanke then confirms the Eevee naming Easter Egg, where you can control the evolution of your Eevee. Don’t know that one? Well, if you nickname your Eevee Rainer, it’ll evolve into Vaporeon; name it Pyro, it’ll turn into Flareon; name it Sparky, it’ll turn into Jolteon. Pretty neat, huh? He also states that there are still Easter Eggs out there that people have yet to find.

Someone from the audience then asked about breeding and if it was coming. Hanke answered:

“Interesting idea. It’s not like we’ve been working on that and it’s about to come out but I think it’s a cool idea and there’s been some discussion about it so we’ll take that as a great suggestion.”

The next person asked for a specific date for trading to become available to which Hanke stated:

“I’m sorry, I don’t have a date for you. We’re working really hard to keep the servers up and running. We’re working on it but it’s going to take a little bit longer. I don’t have an exact date but it’s at the top of our priority list. That’s all I can say”

The question was then asked, we’re the legendary Pokémon going to show up at Comic-Con. Hanke then quelled the rumours:

“If I could summon a Pokémon right now I would…”

The last person asked about gym poaching. Perhaps if you’ve taken out the gym, you should get 30 seconds to claim it as your own before anyone else can. Hanke simply replied:

“Poaching is not cool… You’re point is ackowledged, we should help you out.”

Lastly, the leaders of each team were then revealed; Blanche for Team Mystic; Spark for Team Instinct; and Candela for Team Valor. They’ll be in the game to dispense advice and you’ll be hearing from them throughout the game once they’re added. the teams will also play a role into the reveal of the legendary birds.

So, basically, the takeaway from this panel is: be patient. Great things are coming.
