The Next Dota 2 Major Is In Boston!

A couple of days ago there were nerfs. Not just tiny adjustments, but enough to garner a 30 minute video from Purge. Pretty impressive for a patch of only about 30 lines (read it in full at the bottom of the page.)

In the news that strikes out today, we learn the location of the next Major… and it is Boston. This tells us some super interesting things. We know from previous reports that we are moving back from three Majors a year down to two. This is largely around the time pressures that occurred between the Manilla Major and the International. There were only a couple of months separating them. . It also means that we will see the Majors moving to different places each time. We are not stuck rotating through a few locations.

It also means that we might get to see it come to some more unique places get the Major treatment. I think that it is fair to say that that we will see the other event come to somewhere in either Asia or Europe. Which it will be could be anyone’s guess. Considering the imperfect management of the Shanghai Major I would be surprised to see the event return to a Chinese run competition this year.

I do wonder, will this mean that North American Dota will see 2 large events this year? It is undeniable that the International has been an amazing event, and that it is regularly held in Seattle. With this first major in NA a little part of me is wondering if the big daddy of events, the International might also make the move to a different city…

  • Counter Helix damage reduced from 90/120/150/180 to 75/110/145/180
  • Repel cast point improved from 0.5 to 0.35
  • Repel duration reduced from 6/8/10/12 to 4/6/8/10
  • Relocate delay increased from 2.5/2.25/2 to 2.7/2.35/2
  • Inner Vitality bonus regeneration threshhold reduced from 40% to 35%
  • Stifling Dagger cast range reduced from 1200 to 825/950/1075/1200
  • Smokescreen slow reduced from 25% to 19/21/23/25%
  • Track manacost increased from 50 to 65
  • Mana Leak manacost increased from 75 to 150
  • Illuminate radius increased from 350 to 375
  • Blinding Light knockback distance increased from 400 to 525
  • Sand King movement speed reduced by 5
  • Timbersaw base strength reduced by 1
