The Newest Nintendo Direct Announces a Heap of New Content

At midnight between September 1st and 2nd, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct announcing a plethora of newly revealed games coming this year and next. Let’s begin:

The Nintendo Direct started off with some news from Pokémon Sun and Moon, announcing a special Munchlax giveaway, Alola form Ratatta, and unique Z-Moves given to certain Pokémon. You can read all about it here in its own news story.

Next, they announced Super Mario Marker for 3DS! This version of Mario Maker is designed so you can take these special courses anywhere. The game has 100 Original Courses from Nintendo included on start-up, and have Medal Objectives like defeat all the enemies or collect all the coins.

If you play Mario Maker on 3DS, you can still play courses made on the Wii U version of the game (as long as they’re compatible with the 3DS), but you won’t be able to search via course ID, but rather enjoy the 100-Mario Challenge and recommended courses. All the features on the Wii U version will be available on the 3DS, except or the Mystery Mushroom and the associated Mario costumes, which are exclusive to the Wii U version.

While Super Mario Maker for 3DS is much of the same as the Wii U version, the 3DS version is more focused on community collaboration. You can now share and make courses using your local friends via local wireless and StreetPass. Not only this but you can send across your incomplete courses via local wireless and have a friend help complete it. These courses will be marked with a special icon.

Super Mario Maker for 3DS will be released December 2nd, 2016.

Next, they announced new modes for the upcoming Mario Party: Star Rush. The first is called Toad Scramble. You and your friends play as Toad, and you all play at the same time; no waiting for turns. The game can be played as a single-player game or multiplayer and is a lot faster and strategic. The first player to reach the boss gets to go head-to-head in an action-packed minigame, and when the others show up, they can help out instantly too. As you go through the map, you can find companion characters, like Mario, Peach, etc. who expand your movement options and team up with you in mini-games , where any points they earn will add to your total.

There’s also another new mode called Coinathalon, where you race around a track by collecting coins while playing the mini-games. It’s basically just a mini-game mode but with a set goal/finish line.

The last new mode is called Mario Shuffle, where you move 3-players over to your opponent’s side of the board.

These 7 Amiibos also join in on Mario Party: Star Rush. They’ll become compatible with the game this Spring (for us Aussies) and they’ll each work differently in each Mario Party mode. The Amiibos already compatible include Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and Gold Mario.

You can play together with your friends using Download Play, and local wireless, and if you download the free Mario Party: Star Rush Party Guest app from the Nintendo DS eShop, you can play 4-player multiplayer using only one full version of the game.

Mario Party: Star Rush will release on November 4th, 2016.

There’s a free update coming to the 2013 title, Animal Crossing: New Leaf which will allow Amiibo functionality and more new features. The Animal Crossing Amiibo figures and Amiibo cards will be compatible with New Leaf, as will select other figures from other series as well! Not only that but a new wave on Animal Crossing Amiibo cards will release December 2nd.

These 50 new cards will bring brand new, not before seen villagers to New Leaf, as well as the interior design of that villager’s mobile home. If you like them, ask them to stay!

This new, free update to Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be coming this Holiday Season. But if you’d like to purchase Animal Crossing: New Leaf again or for the first time, you can get a retail version of Animal Crossing: New Leaf with this new update included, and a new Amiibo card from this new series around the same time. There will be a Special Animal Crossing Mini-Direct coming this Spring which will talk about all the new features included in this update.

They’re making updates to the Mii Plaza on your 3DS. This time, they’re going for speediness! They’re adding a Quick Plaza which speeds everything up. The greetings, the game selection, everything. They’re also adding Mii Plaza Premium which means rather than only having 10 StreetPassed Miis sitting at your door, denying anyone else, you can send those 10 Miis to the Plaza Gate, opening up more space for 100 Miis until you’re ready to greet them.

They’re also adding 5 new, fast-paced StreetPass games: race against rivals in Slot Car Rivals; predict stock prices (that’s a topical Nintendo game…) in Market Crashers; cook requested dishes in Feed Me; explore wildlands using the step count of players you’ve met in Mii Treck; and blast yourself from cannons to defeat demons in Ninja Launcher.

This new update is available now and you can download either Slot Car Rivals or Market Crashers for free right now (you’ll get a notification when you load up your Nintendo 3DS), and if you take advantage of this free game, you’ll be able to purchase the other 4 games at a discounted bundle price.

Tank Troopers puts you behind the wheel of a tank with special abilities, depending on what troopers you have. There are 13 different troopers all with different abilities, like paintballs which blind your opponent for a few seconds, to electricity that stuns an opponent.

The game has a single-player or local 6-player multiplayer mode, and also have Download Play compatibility so 6-players can play on the same team. There are other game modes involved but nothing else was mentioned at this time.

Tank Troopers will be available later this Summer on Nintendo eShop, exclusively to 3DS.

Picross 3D: Round 2 is an updated version of the 2009 title, Picross 3D. In this game, you can paint tiles 2 different colours to reveal the items identity. You can even place some of your Amiibos on the screen to reveal special Nintendo items.

You can download a demo right now, and if you like that, buy it right now too!

This September, Nintendo will be releasing a new independent game to Wii U or 3DS every week at a reduced price in the Nintendo eShop. Today, you can get Axiom Verge, but over the coming weeks, you can get Jotun: Valhalla Edition, Noitu Love: Devolution, Severed, and Azure Striker: Gunvolt.

Coming December 2nd, some new Legend of Zelda themed Amiibos will be available; 8-bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link, and a 2-pack bundle of Toon Link and Zelda from The Wind Waker. These Amiibos will have special abilities in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it releases next year.

Partnering with Dark Horse Comics, they’ll be releasing 3 Zelda books for the 3oth anniversary, the first of which is called ‘The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts‘ including more than 2000 illustrations.

Also announced was that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is available right now in the Wii U eShop. Go and get a hold of it!

Hyrule Warriors: Legends has a 3rd DLC pack incoming, including Toon Link and Toon Zelda. Yoshi’s Woolly World is coming to Nintendo 3DS! It comes with every stage from the Wii U version, plus some added extras, including some stages focused on Poochie. Also added is Poochie’s pups which help you out to find where to go and what to find if you ask them to. Not only that but they’re creating some stop-motion, animated shorts with the animation studio, Dwarf. The 3DS version of Woolly World includes 30 of these shorts to enjoy! Also announced is a yarn Poochie Amiibo. No word on what it does yet but it is the cutest thing I’ve seen in a while!

Poochie & Yoshi’s Woolly World launches February 3rd, 2017, as does the Poochie Amiibo. There’ll be a bundle to purchase as well if you choose.

Ever Oasis was announced during Nintendo’s Treehouse event at E3 2016. In Ever Oasis, you’re a chosen seedling and must travel between your oasis and the huge, deadly desert to collect different items for yourself and NPCs to use. Travellers will end up at your oasis with all kinds of different goals, wants, and needs. The inhabitants of the oasis will make different items based on what items you’ve collected out in the desert. If you’re tired from your treks, some may even offer you a place to stay to refuel for your next adventure.

While the oasis is bustling with life, the desert is the opposite. The few inhabitants that lie there are constantly living under the threat of a dark force called Chaos. As you travel across the desert with your companions, you must find dungeons throughout the land. Along the way, you can find allies to help you in the dungeons with specific weapons and skills; some of which are needed to complete some of the puzzles in every dungeon.

Items you find in the dungeons can then be used to craft different items to be sold or given to the travelers in search of them. Some travellers may even be so grateful as to move into your oasis and become your ally. As you play more, your oasis will grow, allowing more life, residents, and shops.

Ever Oasis will release sometime in 2017.

Here’s a newly announced Mario game: Mario Sports: Superstars! In this game, you can play 5 different sport with your favourite Mario characters: soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, and horse racing. The sports aren’t just dumbed-down, quick versions, but full scaled versions, like 11-player soccer. There’s a single-player campaign in the game for all 5 sports, and also a local and multiplayer online, where you can play against your friends or against other players around the world.

Mario Sports: Superstars will be released Autumn 2017.

Lastly, they announced a new Pikman game; a side-scrolling adventure game. You collect the Pikman of 3 different colours and use them and their skills in different parts of the world to help you solve puzzles and reach items you’re unable to collect by yourself.

This new Pikman adventure will be available in 2017.

And that’s it! You can watch the full Nintendo Direct right here:
