Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility Announced

Yep, that actually happened.

This morning at Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference, Phil Spencer came on stage to announce that original Xbox titles would be coming to Xbox One sometime “later this year”. Notably, Phil Spencer called out cult classic original Xbox title Crimson Skies, stating that the title will launch this year on the service. Spencer also claimed that the classic titles will “look and play better” on Xbox One.

Furthermore, Albert Penello, Xbox’s Marketing lead, confirmed via his twitter that your original Xbox discs will work on your Xbox One, as will digital versions purchased on the 360 marketplace. Penello also stated that system-linking will be available for multiplayer play between all three generations of Xbox.
