New Mysteries Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Revealed in another Pokémon Sun and Moon trailer, we’ve got a whole bunch of new Pokémon, the possible ‘good guy’ team battling Team Skull, Alola mysteries, and a cool, new game mechanic differing from Sun to Moon.

First new discovery is named Type: Null… Yeah, I’m not sure either, but it looks like a failed experiment of sorts! Type: Null is the Synthetic Pokémon, and it Normal-Type with the ability Battle Armor, which protects the Pokémon from critical hits.

Next, we have Jangmo-o, the Scaly Pokémon. Jangmo-o is Dragon-Type with the abilities Bulletproof, which protects the Pokémon from some ball and bomb moves, or Soundproof which gives full immunity to all sound-based moves.

Then we have Alola form Raticate to go along with Rattata announced previously. The Alola Raticate is Dark/Normal-Type with the abilities Gluttony, which encourages the early use of a held Berry, or Hustle where damage from physical attacks is increased by 50%, but average accuracy is only 80%, and if this Pokémon is first in your party, you’ve got 50% more chance to find a high-level, wild Pokémon.

Next is something really interesting; Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are set 12-hours apart! Day/night cycles are included, but unlike previous games like Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, etc., the time is set in the game. So if you’re playing Sun, and it’s daylight, your friend who has Moon will be playing in the dark, and vice-versa. Not only that, but certain events will play differently. The example given in the trailer was the Totem Pokémon, Gumshoos changes to Alola Raticate depending on the time of day.

Here comes the supposed good guys, The Aether Foundation! Going from left to right, we have Lusamine, the glamorous Aether President; Faba, Aether’s Branch Cheif; Wicke, the Assistant Branch Cheif; and the Aether Foundation Employees.

Then we have Gladion, Team Skull’s Enforcer; the Giovanni of the Alola region.

Next shown was the fact that you’re given the Zygarde Cube, and throughout the Alola region, you can find Zygarde Cells and Cores that get sucked into the cube. Perhaps this is linked to the 10%, 50%, and complete Zygarde forms discovered ages ago?

It’s no Pokémon Snap, but it’s close! Using your Rotom PokéDex, you can snap pictures of random wild Pokémon in certain areas and send them out for other Pokémon playing folks to rate and comments on! Just a little bit of extra fun for your Pokémon journey!

Lastly, we’re introduced to the mysterious being threatening Alola, the Ultra Beast; UB-01. Not much is known at this point but fans are theorising that this beast may just be the Professor’s assistant, Lillie…

Despite looking similar, the description for the Ultra Beast reads:

UB-01’s body is composed of a glass-like substance. However, it’s constantly changing shapes, never settling on one. While evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions. It’s said that, for some reason, its movements resemble those of a young girl.”

That’s it this time around! You can watch the trailer for yourself below:

Pokémon Sun and Moon will release November 18th on Nintendo 3DS.
