Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is in a tricky spot right now. It’s the latest entry in a beloved series that has spanned over 20 years, but it’ll be returning to the simpler two-on-two battles of much earlier titles. At least the game will be sporting a large roster of characters picked from one of the most successful film franchises ever… Right?
Well, a recent leak confirmed true by today’s trailer, details an underwhelming selection of characters (coming in at 28), when compared to Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s initial release (36). Unfortunately, Marvel’s refusal to give any unnecessary attention to characters they don’t own the film rights to means that fan favourite characters like Wolverine, or any X-Men for that matter, are excluded from the roster.
While it may seem like I’m being a little too rough on the game, it’s all for good reason. Capcom has yet to reveal Albert Wesker in the game and that’s just downright disrespectful. Honestly though, the cinematic style of the story mode does seem pretty interesting, taking inspiration from the campaigns seen in Netherrealm Studio’s recent fighters. If any PlayStation 4 owners out there are curious, a new demo released this afternoon on the PlayStation Store, so it might be worth checking out.

You’ll be able to pick up Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on September 19th for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
