Players have been flocking back to Evolve since it’s reboot over a month ago, and Turtle Rock studios is responding with Stage 2 of their re-launch campaign. The new update will hopefully add a “true co-op story experience” that fans have been clambering for since release. So, since yesterday, the first Co-op operation, The Deepest Dark (Beta) was released. Check out the launch trailer below:
Turtle Rock have described The Deepest Dark as a “linear 4-player co-op experience built within the Evolve universe”, unlike the traditional 4v1 Hunt. The game mode is accessible as a new map variant within the Co-op vs. AI matchmaking queue, but the developers claim the “experience is much more than the other recently released map variants”.
Setting the scene, the official developer post states:
“At the start of the operation, the Hunters are greeted by an ominous voice setting the scene and alluding to the events that have led to the Queen of Gorgons taking over a Wraith containment facility and the surrounding area. As the team makes their way to the Queen’s lair, they’ll face hordes of infected wildlife and Gorgon minions that spawn from the Queen’s eggs. Can the Hunters survive and take down the Queen of Gorgons to uncover why she’s on Shear?”
Turtle Rock were clear to point out that currently, this is still an “experiment”, but their hopes are it will become a much bigger feature in the future, potentially growing into a fully-fledged Co-op campaign.
Evolve re-launched itself back in July, and has been fairly successful since then, particularly after the early — but massive — influx of players. It’s only available on PC currently, but there are still hopes for a console version.
