I like communication from Valve. Over the last year or so they have upped their game to levels that could almost be called great. Alongside the expected announcement of all 16 teams who qualified for the Boston Major, there were a couple of extra titbits that extend our understanding of the longer picture.
The biggest news surrounding the Major this week is the confirmation of the final make-up of the 16 competitors. Following the recent conclusion of the various regions qualifiers the teams heading to Boston are:
- Wings Gaming
- Digital ChaosEvil Geniuses
- MVP Phoenix
- Team NP
- compLexity Gaming
- LGD.Forever Young
- iG Vitality
- Ad Finem
- Team Faceless
Also, for those that may have missed it, the second treasure has now been released. The chest contains items for Dark Seer, Lion, Silencer, Storm Spirit, Treant Protector. There are also rare and super rare items for Spirit Breaker and and awesome one for Juggernaut
We have dates. We now know that the event will be taking place from the 20-23 of April in 2017. As per always, this will be preceded by the Open Qualifiers from the 6th to 9th of March, and the Regional Qualifiers until the 13th.
Also changing with these qualifiers are the scopes of the regions. From this major the Americas region will be split in two, the north and the south. Additionally, Europe will receive the same treatment, becoming Europe and CIS. At the moment it seems that this change will be in place only for the Spring Major. It would not surprise me if they did continue if for the International as well.
The International 2017
Book it into your calendar, we now know when to see the biggest eSports event of the year come to our screens. Open Qualifiers are from the 22nd of June to the 25th, the Regional Qualifiers follow on until the 29th. The main event is then scheduled to take place in the first half of August.
More information about these dates can be found on the Dota 2 blog.
