Nintendo Unveils the Nintendo Switch

After a very hype-filled lead up, Nintendo has finally revealed their newest gaming console, the Nintendo Switch. And… It’s basically what we thought it would be, but check it out for yourself!

The aptly named ‘Nintendo Switch’ will act as both a home console, and a portable gaming device, that much is clear. What is not clear, is how long it will take for me to either lose each individual controller, or for my dog to bury them in the backyard, oh boy.

The feature of particular interest, however, is that the portable screen is bookended by two detachable controller sections. In the video, the players use these to set the device up in a more comfortable position, and also use them as two separate controllers to play multiplayer. The mock-up from Eurogamer a couple of months ago explains this feature quite adequately:

The footage also revealed new Pro-Controllers which can be used opposed to the handheld, as well as in-area multiplayer between two Nintendo Switch’s.

Additionally, the game line-up shown in the trailer suggests more third-party support — something that has been virtually non-existent for the Wii U. The trailer highlighted people playing Skyrim, a Basketball game, a new 3D Mario, Splatoon and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The list of confirmed third-party developers and publishers include:
